Black Sand
Mount Batur’s black sand is a stretch of fine sand located to the west of the foot of Mount Batur. This area is dominated by sand hills surrounded by black coral (black lava).
This desert is not very wide but it is very interesting to visit. Some mountain climbers start climbing from this point and now many local people use this area as a place to take photos and learn about motor cross or ATV motorbikes.
This desert was formed due to the violent eruption of Mount Batur in 1963 which formed an area of fine sand that is different from other places such as Bromo and others. Previously, this area was mined by local residents and the sand was taken, but now sand mining has been closed and is not permitted by the government because it will impact the natural sustainability of Mount Batur.
